A diluted specimen is a specimen that has been diluted to the point where the drug traces or metabolites are also diluted, making them appear less concentrated. This is either the result of the donor drinking large amounts of a liquid before the urine collection or the donor adding water to the specimen after collection. Dilution can be detected by measuring the creatinine level and specific gravity of a sample.
